Starting a blog is a quick, easy, and inexpensive process.  You don’t have to be trained in computer science or know how to code in order to start a blog.  If you want to purchase a hosting package easily, get a free domain name, and get started blogging in no time you should look into using Bluehost, like I did.  I was amazed at how quickly my site was up and running.  And, I immediately knew I made a great decision using Bluehost to get me there.

I know many people dream of starting a website but they are afraid the process will be time-consuming and complicated.  I felt the same way at first.  But, I believe that if you want to start a blog then you should!  That is why I wanted to create this simple guide to help you out.  Here, I will walk you through the process that I used when I purchased my hosting package and set up Budget Peace.  When I got started, I honestly had no idea what I was doing.  But, I knew that Bluehost was the #1 recommended web hosting by WordPress.org.  Since WordPress is one of the world’s largest blogging platforms, I knew using WordPress and Bluehost to run my site was the best option for me.

So, let’s get started creating you a blog or website and get it up and running in no time.

Set Up Your Hosting Account

Start by going to Bluehost’s home page and click on “get started now.”  Super easy.

Select Your Plan

Bluehost offers three different hosting plans to choose from: basic, plus, and prime.  I started out with the basic plan because you have the option to upgrade at any time if needed.  Decide which is best for you and click the green “select” button.

Get Your Domain Name

If you already have a domain name purchased you can transfer that domain to Bluehost here.  If you don’t already have a domain name, you can purchase one during the sign-up process.  When I purchased my hosting package, I got a free domain name which was super sweet.  If you sign-up through this tutorial, you can also get a free domain name for a year!  You can’t beat that.

Create Your Account

After you have put in your domain name and clicked “next” you will need to fill in your personal information.  Here you will fill out your name, address, etc.  Next, you will choose which hosting package you want to purchase.  I started Budget Peace out on a 12-month hosting package.  Prices start at $5.45 a month for a 12-month hosting package and the best deal you can purchase is a 36-month hosting package for $3.95 a month.  Use my sign-up link to get these great rates!

After you select your account plan you have the option to purchase a few extra services.  Underneath each service, you can click the blue “more information” link to read more about the service offered.  The only extra service I signed up for was the Domain Privacy service.  This is a paid service that keeps your personal information private on WHOIS databases.  Bluehost highly recommends purchasing this service and I read other bloggers who also recommended the Domain Privacy service.

Next, you will put in your payment information and agree to the terms of service and policies and then click the green “submit” button.

Congrats!  You now have a domain name and a Bluehost hosting plan.  Way to go!

Installing WordPress

Bluehost offers a “One-Click Install” button to help you get WordPress up and running.  In your cPanel, scroll to “MOJO Marketplace” section and choose the “One-Click Install” button.  After you do that, you click on the WordPress icon.  It’s blue and says WordPress, so it’s not hard to miss.

Next, the installation window will open and you simply click on the green “start” button.  This begins the WordPress installation process.

Now, you choose where you want to install WordPress.  Choose your domain name that you just purchased or one that you already owned.  Then you will click on the “Check Domain” button.

Next, you will need to click the “Show advanced options” box.  This will allow you to se tup your own username and password for your WordPress account.  Also, make sure the “automatically create a new database for this installation” box is checked.

Finally, once you read the terms and conditions, check the box saying you did so and click the “Install Now” button.

Once WordPress Is Installed

Once your WordPress is finished installing, you will be provided with your site URL and the admin login URL, your username, and password.  Be sure to remember these and save them in a safe place.

You can now log in to your WordPress site by going to the admin login URL.  Enter your username and password and then click “Log in.”

This will take you to your WordPress dashboard.   Here you will be able to begin creating your website, upload a WordPress theme, write posts, etc.  The dashboard will allow you to edit and customize all the different areas of your blog.

Don’t forget, if you sign-up through this tutorial you will receive the lowest hosting price at $3.95/month for 36 months, as well as a free domain name for a year!
